Washington Youth Choir
WYC Program
Targeted to DC-area high school students ages 13 to 19, the Washington Youth Choir provides a safe and enriching after school learning environment for members through our two-part program:
Music Curriculum
Washington Youth Choir members receive approximately 216 hours of intense choral music instruction aligned with National Music Education standards. Through two day a week rehearsals, students gain a board understanding of music performance while cultivating an appreciation for the arts.
College Preparation & Arts Enrichment
Washington Youth Choir members receive approximately 50 hours of college preparation specific to their grade level. Partnering with the DC College Access Program, students gain a broad understanding of the college application process. In addition, Washington Youth Choir staff incorporates enrichment activities, community service projects, professional speakers, mentors, college trips and more to complement the program. Eligible graduating seniors also receive college scholarships up to $4,000 toward their first year of school.
Program Benefits
Currently, Washington Youth Choir members pay no program fees and receive the following benefits:
- Participation in numerous productions including nationally televised productions
- College scholarships up to $4,000
- Up to 25 community service hours per session
